"The new Hatch Finatic shaved a bunch of weight by concaving out the spokes and by porting out 9 windows in the frame as opposed to the previous 7. The sharper edges of the previous generation were smoothed out to provide a greater sense of confidence while keeping the modern appearance. The drag system itself is ditching the old o-rings and going with a lip seal under the center hub for a much more reliable sealed system. Finally the new mist finishes provide a beautiful matte appearance and blasted texture." (OleFloridaFlyshop)

I often think of Hatch as saltwater reels but this past spring replaced my 30 year old Abel Pt.5 with a first gen. Hatch 4+ in black for my NRX#5. A big upgrade in smooth, powerful performance that looks like it grew on the great Loomis rod. This was the only outfit I fished on the RXR ranch section of the Henry's Fork this season and it was optimal.

Someone wondered above about price to advantageous performance value in costly reels and having upgraded my daily use reels this year can only suggest such a ratio may not exist. This 4+, new Abel SDF and Nautilus X didn't so much aid in catching as much as in the experience and aesthetic pleasures of doing so. And for counterpoint, I also added an Allen Atlas, a better designed reel than many costing more and it too was enjoyable to fish.
