Lamson will be releasing a new saltwater specific reel series. I'm pretty excited about that, as I am an avid lamson fan.

I'm just back from the West so more latter but I did have the opportunity to fish an advance sample of Abel's SDF on my 6-weight...perhaps the highest quality, most pleasing to fish trout reel I've ever used. The 6/7was perfect balancing my NRX#6, was infinitely fine tunable, made great sounds, was gorgeous and has ever design feature I might hope for in a reel. I do not know its retail price but imagine it is high.

"I do not know its retail price but imagine it is high.

You want 'high' just get into fishing with 2hander rods. A ''good rod/reel/line" can easily set you back $2K

You are being kind to some of us Fred, those who enjoy our local products from Saracione, Burkheimer, and Meiser.

Any word on models to replace the TR series?

Abel has on their website a price of $795 for their new SDF 6/7 reel...I'm trying to discern the price/benefit ratio and my head hurts.

Glad Abel managed to shave a little weight off their previous "SD" versions. Interesting that both the new SDF 5/6 and 6/7 have larger diameter spools that are also wider, yet hold less line than the versions they replace. I wonder if they've improved the drag?

Other notables I've seen that haven't been mentioned are the Hatch Finatic Generation II and Ross Evolution R Salt.

"Burkheimer, and Meiser".... have them both on my 'spey's;' OUT STANDING REELS!

Sorry Bob, but I think the Burkie's are the better reels for 'toe to tow' ... (spelling intended)

Well ... at one time 'Fish feared me.' Now I just wobble into the river, hope for the best.** Even thought about rigging a 'Plunking rod' as pretty wobbly on my feet.

Total 'health crash' last 12-2, now need to use a cane to walk. Pain in the
Butt! Zip going on in the Rogue (save for the very bottom end), but fish will come; will have to sort out how I'm going to 'fly fish.'

"Fly fishing only" season coming up: Wobble to the river; a spinning rod, bubble and a fly? Legal!

Hope I don't meet any one I know. Actually one of my close neighbor's is the local game warden ... he knows, he cares.** Repeating myself (again?) but took Vet's from the local 'Dom' fishing for years... Quite times unless they wanted to talk.

** He carries a pad of fishing lic. and 'back dates' them..
