Recently picked up an Abel #3 reel off Ebay. Couldn't pass up the price for a reel that hasn't been used (so the as per the seller). As advertised, the reel is spotless and doesn't show any signs of use. However, the first thing I wanted to check out was the cork condition. To my surprise, someone had applied some sort of petroleum based grease on it. Not sure how long it has been there...I used a paper towel to wipe off all I could. I also cleaned the inside of the spool off to make sure, it too, is grease free.
My question is pretty simple, should I apply any of the neets foot oil on it or should I contact Abel to see if they recommend sending it back to them to recondition the cork or install new cork if thats what they recommend. Awesome reel, and will be used on the 10wt Edge. Still looking for a reel for the 7wt.
Thanks for your feedback.
