Hey all,
I've got a pretty dumb question regarding reel size, I'm still very new to the game and trying to make sense of everything on step at a time. I've got my 5 weight all set up and looking to add an 8 weight to play with in the salt and ran in to this:
I see on many reels if they're listed as say a 7/8wt the capacity with backing will always be listed as the lower number. Is this to say that a reel will typically do better with the lower number line rating or is this just an industry standard for capacity listing? Would I be better off finding a reel that's say an 8/9wt?
I'm probably overthinking this but purchasing blind online I'd rather ask and look dumb. Don't have any local fly shops here (got my 5wt setup at a shop in the mountains so it took a lot of guesswork out) but this one will be a relative low end setup until I can figure out if I will enjoy fly fishing in the salt.
Thanks!
