    Default Go, Bruins

    Having built a fly rod for one of my granddaughters, I did this next project - a Boston Bruins-themed rod for her 12-year-old brother, who's been playing hockey for 8 years:







    The blank is an MHX 9' 5 wt. The handle and reel seat insert came from Riley Rods. The reel is a Ross Flystart 1.

    I tried about 6 variations of yellow thread before settling on the final one to match the Bruins logo. With color preserver, you're never sure what color the wraps will end up like.

    Nice clean build. That color combo looks great on the white blank.

    Last weekend I went to one of his games.

    Another rink had a 'learn to play hockey' session going on. The kids, boys and girls, couldn't have been more than 3-4 years old. They're really fun to watch. Some are very good skaters, already.

    Since this has turned into a hockey thread, here's the fly fisherman/hockey player:



    Carbon sticks bend sort of like carbon rods do. This is just a wrist shot, not a slap shot.
