    If you start to get a build up of epoxy when pushing the barrel on twist and pull back a little to spread it evenly, then push forward again, still twisting.
    Keep a suitable scraper to hand in case you want to remove some epoxy as you go.

    The blue tape will work...but while still uncured you can wipe off most of the excess ooze with lots of acetone on a rag not paper towel...then leave tape on barrel until cured...take tape off wood while uncured...and monitor any continuing ooze as it cures then wipe with acetone rag to clean the wood ...don't need lots 'poxy light coat on wood and inside...I'd put a long thin line inside on the barrel ...then light coat on the wood ...then put on ...say a half way twisting 360 then wipe that ooze then continue in twisting motion to the end
