    Default Large mouth blank

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and contemplating my third build. I want to build a 7 or 8 wt. fly rod for Largemouth bass. I would prefer a blank no longer than 8 ft. Also, I have read that a lower modulus blank would be better due to it being less fragile. I am having a very difficult time finding a blank anywhere on the internet. They are all 9' or more. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum!

I just spent the last 15 minutes searching for a 8' 8 weight blank. I can understand your frustration trying to locate one.

Hopefully some of the forum folks can give you other options in either glass or graphite.

    Good Luck!

Found this 8’ 7weight blank. Don’t know any more than that. It is fiberglass.

It's 8'6", but Blue Halo makes a 7 weight glass blank for $159.95. I don't know much about it, but Shane Gray of Graywolf Fly Rods liked it, and built several. Search through his Instagram feed for pics and descriptions.

PH Though you want to build...maybe consider those Sage Bass rods, used, years past that were 7'10" for SMB and LMB...

If you don't mind a 2 piece rod, you can always use a steelhead, or popping rod blank. A blank is a blank, they don't care how you build them. Been done many times before.
Can point you in the right direction to look if you want.
