Default Line size effect on rod flex?

I have an Orvis 3 wt 7 1/2' Superfine Trout Bum rod. The Orvis flex rating is full 2.5
This rod is a little too soft for my liking. I prefer slightly siffer/faster flex in the 5 to 6.5 range, like my 7' 4 weight Trout Bum or slightly stiffer 9' 5 wieght Helios mid flex.
My question is this, if I were to put a 2 or 4 weight line on this rod what effect would it have on the flex rating or apparent speed of th rod?

Default Re: Line size effect on rod flex?

If you put a 2 weight line on a 3 weight rod, it quicken the action. Your rod will flex more towards the tip. Your flex rating will increase.

If you put a 4 weight line on a 3 weight rod, it will slow down the action. Your rod will flex further into the grip. Your flex rating will decrease.
