Just accidentally posted on this after seeing a link to it from a more recent threat and for some reason I could not just delete the post.

I have a question regarding over lining. I have recently purchased a 7'9" bamboo 5wt built on the para 14 taper and find it presents a dry fly very nicely close in and out to about 40 feet. I wanted to toss a mouse and found the WF5F just seemed to fall apart at distance. I called the maker of the rod, Ron Barch, and he said he wouldn't hesitate to go up a weight. The 6 weight line pitches the mouse to about 60 feet and rolls out well.

My question is, because the Lamson 1.5 reel I have for this rod will not accept the 6 weight line should I go for the RIO 5 weight line that claims to be actually a 6 weight. I could use two reels, one with 5 and my Lamson 2.0 with 6. The loading of the rod is distinctly different between the two weights and I am concerned with over-working the rod with 6 weight.

    Any thoughts?

    Jeff

One of the best pieces of rod tech and knowledge I have ever witnessed.
