I am buying a new rod for steelheading. I have found a SAGE SLT 890 9' 4pc for 300 and I was also looking at the Scott A2 908 8 9'0" $260. Any thoughts on which would be the better buy?
Went thru the same choice when I was buying my
4wt trout rod. Sage or Scott ???? Both rods casted
very well, but I went home with the Sage.
Best of luck steelheading. I've been doing lots of
that lately. Hooked a couple of big ones recently,
but never got them to the drift boat. They all spit
the fly too soon. Great battles though !!!
That is a good price on the SLT but I don't know if it is the rod I would choose for Steelhead. The SLT is easy to cast but it lacks the power you need for Steelhead fishing. I think the Sage Z-Axis would be a better choice if you can find a used one. The Z-Axis is a fast action rod and the SLT is a medium fast rod. That is not a good price on the A2 unless it is new. The A2 is also rated as medium fast.
My comments are based on the assumption that you are looking at a used Sage and a new Scott.
