Default 765?

I'm looking for a short (7'6" or 8') 5wt to throw mickey finns and bh wooley buggers to smallmouth bass on a small river, so it needs some backbone. But I might also use this as a creek rod in gsmnp. I'm looking at the Orvis superfine and the Winston vsl. I don't live near a shop, so there's not an option to go cast, especially the Winston.

For further info, I tried a TXL 7'9 4wt and it was beautiful on the dries, but lacked punch. My 864 Hydros would make do, but my 906 T3 is too much.

Also, I am trying to keep it "made in the USA".

Thanks!

It doesn't fit the American made requirement, but TFO's 7'9" 5wt Finesse rod is pretty punchy. If you wanna go cheaper, their "Bug Launcher" that's designed as a kid's rod felt pretty good when waggled as well.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

I have the 7'6 5 weight orvis superfine touch and LOVE IT. Perfect for brookies, and perfect for a gill rod imho.
