it's a sage, so you can only use it in the west on big water
Not very far west. I use mine in NH (west of Maine).
How far west is west enough? And how big does the water need to be?
That's funny! And so true...I like mine on the West Branch. Along with the 9'/#5 Zenith, the Z-Axis is a top tier soft tipped, progressively tapered trout rod whose performance is accessible. It is the rod that introduced me to the concept that high line speed and a compliant tip where not mutually exclusive. As soon as I test cast one I had to have one. For full disclosure I must admit I have grown to prefer the ONE with its faster recovering tip and lower mass but its superior dry fly performance may be more technical to extract.it's a sage, so you can only use it in the west on big water
I can testify...for the Languedoc northern part of itI have one; it fishes well in both the Eastern and Western US, Chilean Patagonia, North Honshu and the Languedoc.
It's still my favorite 9'0" 5 wt. and I put a Sage One back in the rack two Summers ago after comparison casting the two.
If you can get one at a good price, I doubt that you'll ever be disappointed in the purchase.
