Default Nice Suprise

A few weeks ago, a friend gave me an old fiberglass fly rod that he had purchased many years ago and never used. It was an Olympic 7180, 8ft 2 piece with a foam grip. I am sure it was a inexpensive when new. The grip and 8 guides are in good shape. I have not been able to find any info about it.
Today curiosity got the better of me and I put a WF6WT line on and took it to the yard. Had to slow my cast way down, but in a couple of minutes I was making 60ft casts with good accuracy. I was totally amazed. I plan to try it at the pond tomorrow afternoon. This is the first glass rod I have ever cast.

Took the Olympic to the pond this afternoon and had a ball. Caught 3 crappy and 7 bream. It was a bit windy but all and all the rod preformed well on the long cast. Had to push a bit on short cast. I have a WF7WT line that should help the short game. It is definitely a keeper. I had no idea an old cheap fly rod could feel so good.

Olympic was a Japanese tackle manufacturer
Most of the Medalist fly reel clones were made by them.
I'm afraid that I don't know anything about their rods.

I have two old fiberglass rods. I rebuilt one and the other, a Wonder Rod, is as she was born. Both are a blast to fish and like you said, it forces you to really slow down. Have fun.

This past week I fished with Chased from the forum and his friend Rod, they both love fiberglass rods, I hope you learn to love that rod and enjoy it to its fullest.
