8 wt for striper
After listening to a great presentation from an area guide, I have to get an 8wt for stripers on Lake Texoma. I tend to enjoy a more relaxed casting motion as I have a Sage ZXL, Winston WT, and TFO professional in various wts.

What 8 wt rod would you recomend for stripers as I know you need one to punch your flys out there. In addition, what would be your reel of choice. I suppose this reel will be worked and I may need to spend more than I have in the past.

I'd look at a St. Croix Avid and a Cablela SLi. Also, if you want to spend a little more you might still be able to get a Sage SLT on a closeout. All these rods are moderate fast. (So is one of the new TFO rods.)

As for reels I like the Orvis Battenkill LA. They're not too expensive and the new models are a little lighter than the old.

I'd say a good rig for you would be and Echo Classic or a TFO TiCR (NOT the X version, too damn stiff) paired with a Lamson Konic 3.5. I would say your best all around line on Texoma is an intermediate- will sink your clousers deeper and still let your poppers pop.

fly fishing - fly fishing gear can set you up with all the tackle. You might order both rods, and take advantage of his "test drive" program to only keep the one you want.
