That would be a great opportunity for the right person. I sure hope they can find that special person to carry on the legacy of Tom Morgan Rods. My friend Rod (aka Rodneybo) owns one of their rods, it is gorgeous.

April 2014 I ordered a rod and was told they would build in 2015. I think Shotgunfly ordered one about the same time. February of this year they took my deposit for the build. I saw Tom and Gerri were retiring a couple weeks ago and emailed about my rod - haven't heard anything back from them yet. Probably will give them a call when I get the chance. I wish them all the best, Tom's in his '70s and Gerri just turned 65. They deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labor.

I just hope I get my rod before the sale - I don't want it to be a training piece for the new owners. Oh well ... as long as it is done properly and is a piece of art. I do plan on fishing it.

    Best of luck to them.

I hate to be cynical, but this isn't going to work. TMRC worked because the T and the M were involved. Without him, it's just another rod company trying to capitalize on a name. Of course there are some tapers that he's created that are worth some money, but materials evolve and tapers become obsolete, as far as making money goes. That's my cynical side speaking.

I wish Tom and Gerri a pleasant retirement, but I'm not sure they'll get as much as they want by selling Tom's name. More cynicism. I apologize.
    Cheers,

I wonder if Tom has someone he has trained over the years in rod design to carry on his work ?

With the right craftsman at the helm-- and I'm talking a solid, special sort of "rodsmith" here --there's no reason as to why Tom Morgan's designs, tapers and legend can't continue on. One of the sweetest rods I've ever fished has long been an old Winston TMF-- Tom Morgan Favorite. A 4-weight measuring 8 feet in length, it represents the former Winston company at its best, as well as one of Tom's finest designs.

Here's hoping that the right rodsmith/craftsman steps to the plate and continues the long, storied traditions that Mr. Morgan has set in place...

You may very well be right. You can easily sell or pass down a lot of things when you retire. Talent, and reputation as one of the elite artists are not among these things. The new rod designer will have to prove he is elite, and then the company will be identified with him. There is zero room for error.

We all know that nothing, certainly no person, lasts forever.
I am though, still saddened to read this, yet appreciative of what Tom Morgan has done for fly fishing.
I sure hope his plans for a book(s) come to quick fruition!

It would be awesome if someone like Mark Steffen or mike McFarland could buy it.
