  1. Default Value of vintage fly rod and case (pic)

I'm not a fly fisherman but my grandmother gave me a bamboo fly rod that belonged to my uncle after he died in 1983. I have kept it all these years but I'm going to give it to my cousin (my uncle's son) who was estranged from his father when he died. I would have done this sooner but I actually forgot about having it and recently ran across it. He is an avid outdoorsman and I think he will be thrilled to get it. The sentimental value to him will far exceed it's monetary value, but I'm curious to know how valuable/collectable this rod might be. There is no writing or markings anywhere on the rod or the case, but I've attached a photo. Thanks.

That rod is worth $20 but since I am a giving type I would like to offer you $50.

I am not much of an expert on bamboo or anything for that matter.

There is a board that specializes in bamboo fly rods and those guys have books and such and can usually tell you anything you want to know about the rod you have even where and when it was made and by whom. Sometimes even the very day it was finalized.

Good luck and this might be a reason to pick up flyfishing. It is sort of like crack. One trip out on the river and you are going to be hooked.

Without seeing the outside of the box here is my opinion. I did some research on bamboo a couple of years ago. If it is what I think it is a bunch of these came back from Japan after WWII. Does is say Nippon or something like that on the outside of the box? Can it be rigged for fly or spinning? If so, depending on the condition it is worth about $50 to $100.
