Not completely on track for the thread (my apologies), but not fully off track either...In reading along it was blatantly apparent to me that the OP had already decided to purchase an Orvis rod, it was simply a glass vs carbon quandary seeking opinions of other's preferences. My contribution, like others, would be useless in this instance as I do not have experience with Orvis products to any degree of depth. But, I do have some understanding of human nature and will offer merely this....OP, buy the rod you want, do not regret or second guess your desire to own one, do not worry about other's opinions, do not base your desires on others approval or recommendations, you will not be satisfied until you do, it's a commodity, in a worst case scenario if you decide later you do not like it...sell it. Not being able to cast the rod prior to purchase is not ideal, but muddying the waters by seeking answer's that only apply to some else's opinion will provide you with little benefit to you personally, and, since even 1000 other opinions should have no bearing on the one you have to satisfy...yourself...you, and only you, can choose what makes you happy...only your opinion should matter. Flip a coin, buy both, shop both and find the purchase that makes most sense, it matters not, buy yourself an Orvis and be happy...although I understand the premise of the thread, the rod you already know you want could have already been in the mail to you, you are burning daylight...pull the trigger. PS: Enjoy your new rod!!
PPS: As an aside, both glass and carbon rod superfine versions of 7'6" 3wt rods appear to be on closeout on the auction site for $429. I assume this makes the carbon model a better "deal" for whatever that's worth.
