Martis Midge Emerger

Martis Midge Emerger
Hook: Mustad 3906B #14
Thread: Brown
Tail: Flashabou pearl rainbow
Body: Bright orange Rayon
Wing: Elk hair, orange died
Hackle: Furnace

note from Dave: To fish these you can put a little float on the orange elk hair and fish it in the film, if the fish are hitting lower in the column, trim the elk hair down to give it a "pre-emerger" profile, no floatant, you can add a small split shot if desired, and let the fly drift down, then a gentle very short tug retrieve to imitate the midge rising to the surface, then let it settle again, and repeat.

I tied them in orange, the original for this pattern, but I have also had success with red elk hair on this pattern.
