Thanks for posting the pictures and running the swap. I don't know the name for mine but don't think I invented it so if anyone knows what it's called, let me know. Look forward to seeing them all!

Fantastic Job guys.

Mine is actually a Snowshoe Emerger. I have grown dissatisfied with CDC since I started using Snowshoe, so I made the change last minute.

The Pattern is pretty simple. (In order of use)
Hook: Gamakatsu c13u #18
Thread: I think it was Ultra Thread 70D in Olive or light brown
Tail: Crystal Flash
Abdomen: Moose Mane (one dark and one light). I have tried coating this with SHHAN but it gets milky and actually can peel off, so I put some 5 minute nail glue on the hook before wrapping.
Wing: Snowshoe Rabbit's foot hair - Dun
Thorax: Arizona Sparkle Dub - Blood Leech

In slow water this thing will float with the body just under the surface all day with just a false cast between drifts to shed water. In fast water you may need some floatant on the snowshoe hair.

How do you get that tapered hackle look? (small in back, larger in front), I've been trying to get that on some small dries and it always turns out the same length even when using short feathers from the collar.

I hackle these from back to front i.e. tie in at the eye and hackle backwards, then bring the thread through the hackle to the eye. Not only does it give a taper but the thread through the hackle especially with a badger gives the hint of a thorax with no extra effort. I prefer Hebert-Miner hackle to get this look.

I learnt this technique from Richard Ward, who has a great series of SBS on his blog.

Dry Fly 'Expert': Still approaching but...

Cheers

Back to join you guys soon. Just got my vise unpacked, and on the tying table last week.

Got out on the South Platte below Deckers yesterday and landed a nice rainbow on the olive al's rat tied by S fontinalis! Tough day with all the wind. Saw some rises to a bwo hatch but the wind kept 'em down and made horrible tangles of my nymphs. Beautiful place to be though so no complaints. The winds were bad for the fires though. I saw the smoke just north of me and had to turn back from scouting some other water as they were closing roads. Hope they can make some headway today.
