    Good review, thanks!

These rods are not in production anymore, are they?

They're on clearance, but it is my understanding the rod has just been renamed - Redington Tempt. Same blank different name.

Maybe I'm just old-fashioned, but it seems to me the new name isn't going to sell more rods than the old one.

There's not much chance the ads for the 'Tempt' will say "This is just the old CT with a new name."

Somehow, this 'new' rod will be a vast improvement over the old.

And the 'new' rod won't be $65 like I just paid at Sierra Trading Post with my latest weekly discount.

I just had to use a Cabelas gift card on 8'6" 5 wt CT . My go to rod in this range is Helios mid-flex and felt ok it is not an American made but the blanks were designed by Sage and I did call Sage and the inside Rep was honest and spoke very openly on the rod's merits and not just company line of some sales pitch. I am not expecting a Sage ZXL which was being searched and while discontinued are still going for $400 discounted quite often.

You did better than me! I've never had a 3 wt before, but I laid down $75 at STP to try the 8' 3 wt 6 piece CT. I figure if I don't like it or don't use it, I can get my money back, or at least darn close, auctioning it off after the rest of the clearance inventory sells.

From what I've read.. The biggest complaint with the CT was not it's performance.. but rather the big red logo.. Some fly fishermen love their aesthetics as much/if not more than.. they love their performance when it comes down to it.. Also the guides on the CT are pretty small imho.. which makes for faster ice-up in these cold days.. But haven't really noticed it effecting shooting ability and such..

Sometimes it's good to see change in a series.. Other times it spells disaster.. So we'll see.. I haven't had the chance to wiggle a Tempt yet... But I highly doubt it'll be leaps and bounds better than the CT.. as the CT is a piece of work

If anything I imagine the is Tempt a little faster than the CT.. As that seems to be the route rod makers are going.. but i could be wrong

I have sent the same question directly to Redington and have gotten this quick and kind reply from them, which I quote bellow:

    "Hi Durval,

It has been discontinued and replaced with the “Tempt”. It is the same blank with different cosmetics. Please let me know if you have further questions or comments. Have a great day and holiday season.

    Kind regards,
    Chris Andersen

"It is the same blank with different cosmetics."

What he also didn't say is that it lists for $20 more than the CT did .

    FWIW.
