They Say

"THANK GOD FOR THIS MOVIE."
-IGFA WORLD RECORD HOLDER, GREG MYERSON

THE PLANET'S BIGGEST NATURAL MIGRATION STILL REMAINS VERY MUCH A MYSTERY TO US ALL. MAYBE THAT'S WHY WE JUST CAN'T STOP FOLLOWING.

It was just a dream. Or was it? America's greatest gamefish haunts our dreams.

America's Striped bass ranges thousands of miles to get to our back doors, and has seduced inhabitants of North America for a millennia. Now, in a world with more complicated threats than just a hook thrown from shore, they persevere on. The only fish willing to meet us in deep oceans, shallow estuaries, sand flats, island beaches, ponds, rivers, stormy waves and jetties is an angling hero. She moves under dark rocks at midnight, on white flats to challenge a fly rod and light tackle, and island currents for boats with manic captains. With beauty, strength, aggression and abandon she meets us on her journey, and only asks that we work as hard to find her as she does to migrate up and down the North American coast. There is not just one way to catch her, and that's what makes her special. The more we realize that, the more we can join together and help save her to ensure even higher numbers make our children stay up at night dreaming about how to track her down.

We Say

I'd been planning to watch this DVD for a while, having seen the trailers for a while and always wanting to have the chance to properly fish for the famed stripers after seeing them just the once, surfing in wave fronts at Torrey Pines State Beach in La Jolla, CA before a local angler was lucky enough to catch one while I watched. A rare treat that far south of course, more usually found up around the bay area in San Francisco and the Sacramento river.

But it is the East Coast of course that has the famous big run every year, north from the Chesapeake Bay area to Maine and then south again, with many famous shore and boat fishing marks along the way where dreams are made and dashed on the rocks. I'm pretty jealous of those of you who live along the path and get to fish the run, especially after watching this.

The fishing action is non-stop and varies from clear water sandy bays and shallows, to rips and rocky shorelines where shore and boat anglers alike throw lures, flies and bait for this spectacular gamefish. The average size of the fish shown on camera is impressive and they are in such great condition - who wouldn't want to catch one!?

It's great to see contributions from fly guru Bob Popovics plus well-respected guides Paul Dixon and Bill Wetzel and also Greg Myerson (IGFA world record holder).

Split into 3 sections covering the Spring Spawn, the Summer Shallows and the Fall Return, this is no brief encounter running to 2:44 so make sure you have the beer on ice and the extra-large bag of chips before sitting down to enjoy this one!

I'd probably love watching. Strippers are special somehow. Like no other fish.
Find dwindling numbers because of netting allowed in Chesapeake depressing. Hopefully this ends soon.
