Default Little Red - Arkansas Trip advice please

    Greetings to all trout hunters,
Every several years or so, I hook up with my brother and dad and we search out "Gold Medal" trout waters to test our skills and determine who is the FLY MASTER ( which Dad somehow always wins, I honestly think he buys fish and hooks them when we are not looking ) Anyway, We were looking at the Little Red in Ark. this trip aiming for late May. Could anyone give up any good trout fishing experiences on the little Red - best time to go, where to go. Not interested in guide service - more fun roughing it on our own. Will be dragging a 35" camper in 2 - 3 day trip and Dad will need fairly easy access to the Red. Who has the best fish tale?
Thanks for your information to hose who reply

    Out For Trout

I would stay at the fish hatchery camp grounds, I think it's the only campsite located right on the river that is public. There is also easy river access right at the camp.

I would call and see if they take reservations because it gets pretty busy there during the summer.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

I have never been to the little red. Ive been close a couple times, but that drive is alot more gas money from the University of Arkansas, on a student's budget. I have heard some great stories from out there though, big fish.

If your not totally set on the little red, norfork and bull shoals have excellent campgrounds and excellent fishing. I have caught some great fish out of both and have friends that have caught two footers on both as well. Both of these rivers are easy to fish guideless.

Either way, arkansas has some great trout fishing. whether your delicately nymphing for rainbows or chunkin giant streamers for HUGE browns.

    Good luck!
