It's time to play "Name This Insect"!

This is a bug I have never seen before it appears to be a beetle with iridescent green body and a large red stripe down it's back. It allso has tan legs. It is cricket size and runs like the road runner from the cartoon show.

Sorry it does not go beep, beep...

good luck trying to stomp it... You'll need it!

This bug seems to like the lake shore.

I think it would make a good fly???

I don't know that bug but it definitely sounds like a beetle. Foam or deer hair pulled over the back would work well to keep it afloat. Remember that what the bottom looks like is more important to the fish. Adding some rubber legs to the fly that will twitch would probably be a good idea too.

It is probably a tiger beetle, family cincidelidae.
If you can get a photo of it, post it on this website..

and they will give you a positive ID.

If the large red stripe runs down the middle of the back (front to back) it may actually be just a gap between the wing covers. Sometimes the wing covers part just a little and you see the red wings beneath them.
