    Default I pulled the trigger!!!!

Well, I have been shopping around for quite a while now and today I found a deal that was just too good to pass up. I went with the Echo Carbon 8' 4wt combo from Cabelas. It came with one of their prestige plus reels, prestige plus line and backing, all for less than what the rod cost (the combo was on sale). To boot, I had a $20 coupon. I know that this isn't the the flashiest outfit a person could buy, but for fishing in the Driftless Area I think it will more than serve its purpose. I do have a GPX line that I am going to put on it that I bought on clearance a couple weeks ago. Does anyone know anything about the Prestige Plus lines from Cabelas? Aren't they a SA product?

I am just tickled pink about my new toy

I don't know who makes the Prestige Plus line for Cabelas, but I do know that's it's fine line and worth the $40 it costs. My first couple outfits still have it on the reels and I have never had any problem with it.

I can't compare it to the tier 1 lines that cost much more since the only tier 1 line I own is a Rio Outbound on my 8 wt Redington Predator, and that's a bit completely different application than the use my 3-6 wt outfits get.

Congrats Forrest- that sounds like a fine outfit, a length and weight that will serve you well. Some years back I lived in Dubuque Ia and spent many a hour on the fabled streams of the driftless area. Waters such as the West Fork of the Kickapoo, Spring and Timber Coulee to name a few. My rod of choice was a 7'11 4wt and with it I landed my largest fish on a dry fly.

I really like the echo rods that I have used; never owned but test drove the Echo 2. I already have my TXL 7'11" 3 wt or I would be all over the closeout model. They're on e-bay for $139.00 right now!!!! I just don't need two identical length/wt rods...

Grats! It is always fun and exciting to bring home a new fly rod. Echo seems to be making a good name for themselves.

I met a rep for the company at a local fly shop(River City) here in the Portland metro area. He had a bunch of rods he was dragging out to show me. I didnt have the $$ at the time, however.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

That sounds like a great rig Forrest, and a good value too! Any more I have sort of moved past the flash factor and am concerned with function. I fish an awful lot with a 9' 7 weight Quarrow that cost me 59 dollars delivered. I love that rod and I bet you'll be happy with yours.

    Congrats man!

Your correct, the Prestige Plus is made by SA, and the Prestige is made by Cortland. Both are pretty good lines for the $$.

My brother picked up that same rod. I have used it every now and then and it isn't bad at all! Casts well, I like the reel and I didn't see any wrong with the line at all. Seems to me like you got one heck of a deal on a nice rod/reel combo!
