Default Re: memory in leader?

If I'm fishing from a boat, or have a long walk to the river, I do the stretching that Frank suggests, then reel in the line until the fly is on the tip of the rod. Then roughly 9 feet of the leader is straight, and only a little bit of the leader is coiled on the reel. Give it a littel pyull when you start fishing and let it go.

The best way to keep it straight is to catch a fish every third cast.

Furled leaders are great. I make mine out of thread and they do lay out purdy.
I also buy Fouro Tapered leaders, they don't seem to have the memory other leaders do. They cost more, but with what Cliff said about adding tippet, they will last a long time.
