    Default Newbie Questions

I posted a while a go about taking a class to learn how to fly fish. I plan on taking one this spring/summer. Does anyone know of a good place to go in Michigan. I have contacted a few with mixed results. Any info would be great. I was also thinking of taking a tying class this winter, should I learn how to fish first or dose even matter? I have found that I am very addicted to this sport and dont know what I am doing. I want to learn as much as I can.
    Thanks!

Go to the Michigan Trout Unlimited web site. Look for the T.U. Fly Fishing school. It is held in early June to coincide with the free fishing weekend. It is held near Traverse City. As a newbie, it will definitely benefit you. I've been 3X from beginner to advanced and have learned every year. I have always had a great time too. Feel free to p.m. me if you have any questions.

Do you have an Orvis near you? I am a big fan of Orvis' fly fishing classes, and I've had great experiences with the local store.

I don't think there is an Orvis on the West side of the Michigan. I did a fly fishing 101 class through the Orvis in Royal Oak, which was great. I'd go to the Hex Shop on the east side of GR. There are some great folks in here and they might be able to help you out.
