Default Cast my new fly rod today

A few days ago, I bought a Cabela's Three Forks, 9 ft., six weight. Though a low-end rod, it's still an upgrade over what I had . It's amazing how much better it casts. In comparison, it feels like I'm flicking the line out: more distance with less stroke and effort.

    Hi fly,

Congrats on the new rod. I have always thought it was a mistake to buy a really cheap rod. It is easier to cast a better rod and easier to learn.

That first cast is always pretty cool. By coincedence, I got a new rod on August 3rd. It's a Sage SLT 389 5 pc that I picked up as a demo from a shop here for 500 even (655 retail). Is it ever SWEET! After a couple of casts in the yard, I was able to lay out 50 feet of line. I really like the relaxed, laid back style this rod has - it's classified as medium-fast. I'm headed out tommorow to try it on some browns about an hour from here in the Jemez Mtns and am planning on really giving it a workout on the San Juan for 3 days weekend after next. We'll see how those "footballs" like a 3 wt
