Interesting read, I initially thought this post would incite heated debate among the contributors. To the contrary, everyone has been climbing the mountain.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

I consider myself to be a "fly fishing purist" as even though I have a whole slew of different fishing interests, I haven't fished with anything other than a fly rod since I was a child.

I also think that it must be very cold and dark up there in Alaska

    Hi Paul,

Cold indeed, but we are gaining almost 5 minutes every day on the sunup to sundown time scale. It's just a matter of time.............. then comes the break up, then once the shelf ice has melted back enough I'll launch out for that first week float trip on the river. Thing is, I'm not sure which river it'll be this time around. Spring time can be Grayling and trout time if I can find the early arrivals.

Anywhere can be the land of great expectations, broken dreams, or paradise found, it's all up to you.
