Looks mint!... but is it missing the cover on the check adjustment knob?

I noticed the missing emblem. My son-in-law was given it as part of an estate settlement. He is looking at selling it. The reel is mint except for the missing emblem. I have him trying to see if it is around somewhere but I m not that confident it will be found.

Duh...... I failed to notice the missing fly & castle emblem until it was pointed out by others

Although I try not to buy reels that I really don't need any more, I am a habitual price and reel watcher on the auction site. The Prince series (like all the Hardy reels) hold their value well. That value however is not as high as many other of their old reels. There are people who place high prices on them but those reels seldom sell above 200 dollars. There can always be exceptions but with a missing logo medallion on the drag knob all bets are off. Does he have the padded Hardy case that would come with?

I would contact Hardy USA and try to get someone to be nice to me and help find the missing emblem. That little detail may mean $50 at sale time. If you can replace the piece you may as well list it here, it's a very nice reel for 6/7 weight rods.

This reel was an early player in the mid-arbor, wide spool design concept. It departed from Hardy tradition by having a vertically mounted pawl that engaged gearing inside the spools arbor. Introduced in the early '80s when the $ was strong against the pound, I paid about $35 for it shipped from a British catalog house. It is a too loud, too wide reel that might appeal to a collector of modern Hardy's or, without the emblem, $95 for someone looking for a serviceable, cast alloy reel with a stouter than typical check. There was a plain grey as well is this "Golden" version.

Well I contacted the good people at Hardy America and a new Hardy Emblem is on its way to make this reel complete. Actually also found the leather case and extra spool to go along with it. By the way talked the son-in-law in to keepng the reel for the grandson along with a Hardy Soveriegn 4/5 with two extra spools.

Lots of good info much as I would expect from those who responded. Great to see you got the missing piece from Hardy. That's some customer service for you! That's a good choice to hang onto them for a while. Enjoy them.
