Thanks for sharing jpbfly, the chub is a very powerful looking fish.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

    Hello Chub Specialists,

We have guy over here, who loves to eat the chubs. But he perpares something like a fish burger from the meat and I can tell you that these burgers are fantastic. Here I will try to explain the recipe:

    1. Cut the filets and sprinkle them with fresh lemmon juice. Then pack them for a while into the fridge.

    2. Grind the filets together with some pieces of bacon, onion, white bread and parsley.

    3. Mix this mass with egg, salt, pepper and maybe some flour so that it becomes a little bit sticky.

    4. Form some meatballs (flat disks => diam. 3", thickness aprox. 1") and fry them in butter in a pan.

Hope you will get an idea about the recipe, I did it just one time, but it was really unexpected good
    Best regards from Germany,

    THORSTEN

    Hello JP,

You are welcome - it was a pleassure We do have many chubs in our river and they get too much. Now, I decided to take some out, but I do not like to kill a creature without any use. Because of that I will lay down some of the smaller chubs to feed the wild pigs or the foxes. Some big ones I will take to prepare meat balls
    Best regards from Germany,

    THORSTEN

Great fish JP. I actually gained a great deal of respect for the Chub after watching a show recently about them. In fact I sent JP a PM mentioning it to him as he is the resident Chub Master. Chub as big as the one JP has there are not common and they are hard to catch. Seriously, a 5 pound Chub the way the show made it sound was like the Holy Grail of Chub fishing.

    Thanks for posting that.

I should also say that in that same show, they caught Dace, which when small are almost identical to Chub. There is a way using one of the fins. One curves in, the other out.

My mother grew up eating whatever her family caught out of the creek. Trout, chub, and sucker all went into the skillet equally. She claims her father preferred chub over trout.

You're too kind Dandace are even more exciting to fish than chub...they're smaller but very selective ...haven't caught or seen one for a while still too cold...will post some pics after dinner you'll see the differences
