Nice work, for a first attempt it looks very good, by no means perfect, but for sure you will catch fish! Probably way better than anything I tied on my first attempt. Keep at it and you will see the improvements, it is just like anything else where practice pays big dividends.

Not bad for the first tie.
Now all you have to do is catch a fish with it and you'll be hooked (on tying), too. I haven't bought a fly in years. Many of mine look rough, but they catch fish and that's all that matters.

Better than my first try and as Larry said it will catch fish. On the maribou tail, try making the length about 1.5 times longer than the hook gap, you may have some short strikes if the tail is too long.

Still very good for first try.

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

Congratulations, that's a really nice tie for your first. MUCH better than my first bugger that's for sure. Stay with it and don't get discouraged. Please post some of your ties in the "what have you been tying" thread and in the general tying forum. People are always willing to help.

Agreed dean, tightline videos are very well done.

Nice! Welcome to the joys of tying your own. Not only is it cheaper, but you get to put your own "spin" on classic and new flies that get to become the only fly of its type on the water. You look in any guide's box and you will always see a few flies that you won't find in a bin. It's a great way to spend the slow season too, in between any winter sports and fishing open water that is!
