Thread: Thoughts on a Sage 4210 reel

  1. Default Thoughts on a Sage 4210 reel

I'm about 2/3 of the way thru building a Sage Xi3 10wt. The Salmon reel I have (that matched the rod I just sold) is a hefty 10 1/2 ounces "bare". I was thinking of selling the reel and spool and I'm looking at the Sage 4210 - just wondering if it has enough guts to stop Salmon in a swift river current? Thanks.

Based on no responses I assume no one here has one - evidently it's not a sought after reel.

I used a 4230 briefly on trout, borrowed a friends rod. Reel was very smooth and nice. Can't speak to the drag as I only caught trout on it.

I looked at them but went with the Nautilus FWX....better price, more drag adjustability and spare spools are cheaper

    Just my $.02

I just looked up the Nautilus FXW and the reel and spools aren't any cheaper than the Sage 4210 plus they only go up to 7/8 weight - I wanted 9/10wt.

Oh darn. Based on the caption I thought this thread might be a fly fishing poetry slam, recalling Keats's "Ode on a Grecian Urn".

I took my Sage reel to Nantucket
But my backing got fouled and it stuck. It
    Near ruined the day
    Till I heard someone say,
"Use my gear and some chum from my bucket!"
