Dude hang this maggot out to dry!!! Once a dirtbag always one! Don't let him beat someone else , nail his butt to the wall!! Have had it done to me went as far as repossessing my things from a store trying to sell the stolen goods ( a detective supervised me as I did it) .
Like the police told me you let it slide and 9 times out of 10 he will be back if not to you to someone else. Stop them in their tracks the percentage goes way down. Sorry for being a little corse but I despise thieves!!

So besides a good Mayfly Hatch it takes a fly rod thief to get everyone fired up. And I thought you guys were just a bunch of old farts.

I went ahead and checked out the douche's seller profile, 11 pages of the type of stuff you would find in a collage kid's car. I hope you get your gear back man, that's a tough pill to swallow.

I agree with Dan and others...if you have the serial # of the rod with your name on it, call ebay and demand that they contact the buyer for you. Tell them you are calling the police or better, your state's Attorney General. You should contact the AG, that is their job. Good luck, I'd fight like hell with anyone that tried to impede me.

The serial number on the rod isn't for looks. Winston will have the record of the sale to your father. There is just no one that this can go un-solved. I would think ebay would want very much to ban as many a--holes like this as they can.

Right, used hiking boots, size 8.5. Used shoes, size 9.5. Come on!

Nevermind -- sorry I didn't read all 8 pages of this thread before commenting. I am glad that you have made progress, but it almost pained me more to hear about the buyer's actions of removing the name and giving away a beautiful leather case like that! You can always get the name re-done, if Winston Co. isn't willing to do it for you (I bet they would after hearing your story) I bet there are few rod building pros here that could help you. Man! I really hope you get that case back too.

People tend to dismiss this, thinking that the AG's office won't get involved with something like this.

I had a problem with a bounced check ($6,000) for a race engine. I called the AG for the state where the bouncer lived. A woman in the AG's office told me exactly what to do. She even gave me the text of a letter to write to him, citing the law in his state and what the penalties would be for him if he didn't make the check good.

I followed her advice and got a good check a couple weeks later.

It appears the the culprit in this case is a serial car thief, or could be, based on his ebay sales record. I am not trying to be a one-man jury here, but there is evidence. This is something that the AG office would take up. And I guarantee ebay would not be getting letters from a state's AG.
