Smile 3-5 Best Panfish Flies

Hi ya'll,

I'm going on vacation to the UP in less than 2 weeks and wanted to tie 3-5 panfish patterns for the trip. What are some of your favorites that aren't too hard to tie and work well? Or if you have any tips or tricks, anything is appreciated!

I haven't fished for panfish for a lot of years, but this "pink weenie" thread looked like one to consider for panfish.

Small poppers can be a lot of fun. You might even get a bass or two.

Pan fish have small mouths and tend to suck down tiny flies, making C&R difficult.
That's why I tie most of my pan fish flies on size 12 and 10 hooks.

My single favorite pan fish fly is the McGinty. Don't go out without it.

Agreed. You'll catch less, but you'll kill fewer runts in the process of disgorging the hook.

My favorites are

Foam terrestrials- crickets, hoppers, beetles, etc. Just make sure its got rubber legs sticking off of it
Bead head buggers- black, olive, white, tan, and grey
Damsel Nymphs- I tie them with beadchain eyes so they get down a bit.
