  1. Default Happy Birthday to Me

I've fished the Orvis Encounter outfit for two years and decided it was time for an upgrade. I cast both the Clearwater and Recon. While the CW felt like a great rod, I could tell a big difference in the way the Recon felt.

Today I purchased the Recon #5 9' with Battenkill III reel. This thing casts like a dream. Took it out on the water for a couple hours tonight and had a blast. Anyone else had experience with this outfit?

I was going fly fishing until my wife suggested it, now I can't tell who is outsmarting who!

Being "one with nature" requires a knowledge of what animals are living nearby and a weapon of sufficient magnitude to give you at minimum an equal chance of survival. No one has an invisible aura that animals can detect and sense your good intentions.

That rod really suits my casting style. Maybe the easiest rod i ever fished with, unfortunately it is my sons and not mine

I haven't cast the Recon but I've heard nothing but great reviews.

    Happy Birthday!!

I have tried the 905 and found it to be a really great rod with power and finesse as well. Just an all out balanced rod.

I do own the 9' 6" 6wt, and the lift in that rod is just amazing. I'm ready for the wind any day now.

The Recons are a rod that deserves attention.

    Happy Birthday!!

I've got a Clearwater and a Battenkill Disc reel, although I don't use them together. I have a Lamson Guru paired up the with the Clearwater, and the Battenkill Disc reel is on a Loomis Shortstix, but I love the quality of both. The Recon is definitely a step above the Clearwater in materials, and is also faster. Everything I've read about it is that is a great rod. Yellowstone Angler even rates it nearly as high as the Helios. I am a big fan of Orvis gear. I know a lot of people think their stuff is "snob" gear, but it really is top quality, and their customer service is second to none. Their 100% satisfaction guarantee is very impressive... and probably rarely used.

Just caught this...... furthest thing from Orvis fan so no experience with your outfit. Other reel is another story.
But, a belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

Your arm doesn't look that old

I recently posted a picture of me holding a fish and I noticed that I have old man hands, which bothered me a lot, although it shouldn't because, you know, I'm kind of old.
