When I use a sink line with a unweighted streamer, I usually get caught on the bottom!!
I saw a neat weedguard on the internet!
I just tied a few fur leeches with a flouro weedguard.
I used 25lb flourocarbon on some size 4, 6, and 8 streamer hooks.
They look great to me, I'll give a test run tomorrow and post a report.
Have any of you guys used a mono weedguard?

Yes, I use 20lb. mono for a weed gaurd. WAYYY cheaper than flouro, just buy a spool at a sporting goods store and it'll last you a long long time. For pike i tie it from behind the eye to the bend (makes a small loop to cover the hook point). I do the same for bass but most of the bass I fish for don't get over 2-3lbs so I clip the weed gaurd so that it reaches from right behind the eye to the hook point(with the only attachment point behind the eye). This seems to be enough resistance to avoid most weeds yet isn't so much that I miss hook sets on the smaller fish.

Hi FlyRichardFly,

A lot of salt water fly fishers use weed guards in Florida. They have been around for a long time used in salt and fresh waters. Made from mono and wire with a single or "V" design. Here are some examples.

I use a double mono weed guard on my bass flies
You'll find that weed guards get destroyed/bent out of shape pretty fast
By tying in two in the first place they last.....twice as long:wink:
You can even cut out the most offensive one and still be in good shape

Thanks guys,

I tied a couple wire and double mono weedguards for next time.
Today my flouro weedguard fur leech worked pretty good.
I caught a few channel cats and two were near 5lbs!! Almost too much for my 6wt!
Zonker strips are a beautiful thing to put in a streamer. Super action...... they never stop moving!! I think even better than marabou.
