Default Help with small fly to tippet connection

Having been a salt and warmwater guy the last 25 years, I've seldom had need to tie on anything smaller than a size 6. I've also rarely gone below a 6# tippet. Usually both are significantly upsized. So now at 59, I'm thinking about dabbling in a little local brook trout fishing in small streams but I'm struggling with seeing/tying size 16 flies on 3# tippets. Any tips on knots, tools ,( how to hold my tongue just right..... :-))
to make the process livable is greatly appreciated.

    A couple of things.

If you are fishing for Brookies, there's typically no need to go below a 6lb test. When you cut a piece of leader/tippet that will go to your fly cut the line at an angle as though you are trying to create a point on your line. Do not bite it this flattens the end.

Have a pair of clippers that has an eyelet poking pin on it and poke the eyelet.

...a pair of # 2 or 3' is always close by for me.

Ha, I do use my tongue/mouth when I tie the fly on, it has to be just right.

Best of luck, I feel your pain. My eyes have always been perfect and about 5 years ago I started needing readers...Now I use them daily.

A cheap pair of reading glasses will help also.I say cheap so if you lose or break them it's no big loss.

This, but get a higher magnification. I normally wear about 1.25 to 1.5. I got a pair of 3.5's and they work great.
