Thread: Waited all year for this!

  1. Default Waited all year for this!

Every year we plan a 5 to 7 day trip to Henry's lake and surrounding waters. Last year my trip was cut short due to a death in the family, so I was pumped for this one.
We got here Saturday with winds howling.....no pontooning in this!
Sunday, Cloudy and raining with some wind later....got out for some nice fish.
Monday, Wind, cold and rain...some fish but very slow
Tuesday, sunny and warmed later in the day, but fish have been put down so tuff going
Wed...VERY COLD, sleet and wind from H*%$%
Thursday (today) COLD and the wind hasn't let up all day. I did hook a nice 30 to 32", got to boat and measured but broke off at the sight of the camera.
So, much for my long awaited trip, but.......IT HAS BEEN WORTH IT!

And the HOG of the trip:

    Hi Joni,

Way to go. Very nice fish. One fish a week like that is enough for me.

I have averaged about 2 to 5 hours a day on the lake and average 6 to 9 fish a day.
I did have to work for it!

    I hear ya, Joni!

I went out twice... late July and again in August looking for that old, reliable callabaetis hatch. They were no-shows! I hear from the locals our nailing it every year for the past few years was a fluke because of the low water. All of the hatches were late we're told but we did catch parts of the salmon fly hatch for the first time.

What were you using to get those beauts?

Nice fish yet again. Some of them had spots i'd expect to see on an Atlantic Salmon.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

Jack, type II line, Joni's special tadpoles, some of Lynn Scott's distorted abominations that absolutly take no prisoners. And Baxter.
It was tough fishing because of the weather. Very- Henryish.
