Default Waders .. Wading Boots .. Size ??

    Hi all,

Have a great set of Stocking Feet Waders on the way ... Mail Order

Now, what are the suggestions of picking the right boot size ?

I'm sure all boots are not made the same ... that's a given.

The waders have 4mm stocking feet ... or that's is what is listed.

Size question is all over the board ...

Same as Street Shoe size ... no, go one size smaller .. no, go one size larger
go to the store with the waders and try on ..(not an option here .. will be a mail order Christmas gift) .. download one of the Size Charts they offer and hope it pretty much covers the bases ?

Any help will be appreciated before the order is placed ...

Candidly, I always go at least 2 sizes above my street shoe size. Couple of reasons for same: Wading boots (Simms Freestones appear to be an exception to this) have a fairly narrow 'last' (spell that right???). and when you put on a heavy sock (or two) your feet get jammed in tight. A BAD PLAN A!

Secondly, the 'over-sized' boot gives you plenty of 'toe wiggle room,' a must if you want to keep your feet warm.

Thirdly, boots are the one thing I won't buy 'mail order' out of someone's catalog without trying same on (socks, waders and all) before buying. What it says 'on the box' as to size has little to do with 'reality' on your feet.

1 size over your shoe size has worked for me with 2 different pairs of wading boots.

I went one size larger and they fit like a charm.

Or, if you want to show a little bravado, take them to a Payless and put them on and use their measure tool to measure your size with the waders on.

I agree with everyone else...1 size over is pretty standard and comes in handy if you wear thicker socks during winter fishing - You will have less of a chance restricting blood to your feet and will keep them toasty warm in the cold water.

I'm with Fred on two sizes over. I have several pairs of Korkers - different models and sizes - and two sizes over seem to work best with them. It's always easier to add socks to fill up the space if necessary than to end up with a tight width or a short toe-box - nothing will ruin a day's wading faster than that.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wyoming . . .

If you're planning on winter fishing I would go with Fred's advice...You definitely want wiggle room for your toes... Too tight and your fishing will be over much sooner then you want...
