I have been obsessed with fishing and or fish, my entire life. I joined this forum last year to gain some knowledge, after an amazing fishing experience in Oregon last October. I had an old Bass Pro shops 9' 8wt combo I had gotten years ago for Bass fishing, but had gotten away from it years ago.
Since this trip, catching my 1st trout, finding this forum, the Driftless area, with a few successful trips there, I am very excited for spring!
This brings me to my reason for posting. I've gone from one BP 8wt (That I have since gifted to a friend) to the following, in order of purchase;
Orvis Clearwater, 9' 5wt - Clearwater 5wt reel
Douglas DXF, 9' 8wt - Pflueger Trion off of 8wt Bass pro combo
Fenwick Aetos, 9' 5wt
Douglas LRS, 7'6" 4wt - Orvis Battenkill Disc drag reel (Sweet reel, for the price!)
I find myself very interested in the feel or castability of these rods (and the next one on the horizon)to my style of casting. I have cast numerous rods in these weights to pick these rods. The Aetos was the only rod I bought without casting. It was on sale at BP very cheaply and I figured I couldn't go wrong at the price. As it turns out, I give it a slight nod over the Clearwater. Though I would recommend both to someone on a budget, like myself.
I am hoping there is a cure for this problem?
As a side note, the buddy I gave the 8wt to has since bought a 5wt...lol
Now if I could only find a decent musky rig....
