Secret Weapon fly?

Let's hear 'em..
My steelhead catcher is a 3" Hot Pink chenille "San Juan Worm".
Spring Browns is a Yellow & Partridge Spider/wet fly.
Summer Largemouth is a Green & yellow Deer-hair Frog.
River Smallmouth love a White lead-eyed Zonker/rabbit strip.
Late spring Browns on a Grey Ghost streamer on the swing..Yeehaw! :frogdance

First out of the box for me tends to be a sparkle dun, x caddis etc. but some personal favs-- and not secret by any means:

soft hackles are great, orange and partridge for me. A great searching fly when you run out of ideas.

black marabou muddler, a big one fished on a sinktip has been a hard worker and has caught some decent sized browns. And like the soft hackle, they seem to be idiot proof- not that they always work, but when you fish them you always feel like you're at least in the game and that good things could happen at any moment.

Deer Hair Emerger- it doesn't seem fair that a fly this easy to tie works so well.

I like to skitter dries sometimes, usually around or after dark - Neversink Skater- a dry on a short shank hook with 4xl hackle, and a Grey Fox Variant are 2 patterns I like a lot and are a blast to fish, and the GFV a pretty good pattern for eastern green drakes, grey fox and other eastern mays.

For stripers, my go to fly is a flatwing tied in the Ray's fly colors...
For black bass... a sneaky pete
Pan fish..... the McGinty
streamer.....hornburg
trout nymph.... the Coleman March Brown
wet....dark cahill most places, but in my home river it's the partridge and peacock
dry.... too many choices... maybe a Griffith's Gnat

The flies are not the secret, where I use them is.................

Dry Fly - Trout (lower 48) #18 or 20 Blue Quill
Wet Fly - Nine Three, G. Ghost, Brook Trout Minnow, etc, etc, Feather Wings
Nymph - Trout Gold Ribbed Hares Ear various sizes

Pike Fishing anywhere - McNally Magnum Tandem various colors

Bass, a lip hooked shiner no weight drifted for Small Mouth

I of course use other flies but these are some go to deals.

For Salmon here, featherwing streamers and Whitlock Sculpins near the salt.
Bunny fur comets in many various colors and sizes when the run is on the mush.

For Steelhead, Rainbow, and Char, Featherwing Streamers in many traditional patterns and a few that I tie for fun. The Nine Three is by far one that has accounted for many many fish.

Trout: Partridge and Peacock, Size 14. swung or drifted to fit conditions.

Panfish: tan marabou minnow, size 12 (marabou tail, chenille body, bead chain eyes, on a streamer hook. few strands of rootbeer-pearl KF in the tail optional)

Green bass: chartreuse and black foam popper with chartreuse grizzly hackle tail, palmered middle, black rubber legs and big black eyes (body by Rainy's). Or a clouser or money bunny (a redneck rabbit with a KF tail)

White bass: size 8 light blue or gray and white clouser. Light blue/pearl KF in the middle, black/pearl on top.

I have been using mostly two flies to cover a LOT of different fish: Green
Weenies in #10-#16, and Wooly Bugger (SMALL bead chain eyes) in #10 and
#12 (2x long). I have had really good results with these two flies all year
long, and for everything from trout to largemouth. My first largemouth of 2008
was caught on a small Green Weenie!

I do use other flies on occassion, but just because I tie so many patterns.
Tying the same two patterns can get a bit boring, but fishing the same two
patterns has been great!

Bass(smallmouth, spots, and largemouth)- bumbble bee popper or a crazy legs crawdad
Hybrid Striper- big clouser in diffrent colors or a BIG wollybugger, white feathers grey body and silver bead head
Bluegill- a black woolybugger with rubber legs
Trout- a bead head scud in UV tan, or a woolybugger in black,olive, or white
Crappie- a fly I ty that looks like a crappie jig with no head, fished under a strike indecater SLOW.
Carp-bigger brown nymphs, light cahills, and crawdad patterns
Gar - nylon rope fly
Cats- crawdads and wooly bugger
these ofcourse are my GO TO flies or starter flies
And I ty so I am always playing and comeing up with some wild stuff that actually works at least once LOL

My go to Saltwater fly is a toss up between a bendback and a clouser, pink over white would be my favorite colors. I like the fact that both flys ride hook point up, and getting snagged very rare. Plus 99% of the fish i hook are right in the top lip and not the gills. Both are very versatile and can be used effectively under a number of conditions.
