Thread: sunglass lenses

  1. Default sunglass lenses

What are your guys' go-to lenses when you fish? I have nice oakley smoke grey lenses I use for sunny days, but I think I am going to get some amber ones to switch in for overcast days.

    I wear only Maui Jim's...
    Grey lens for sunny days
HT lens for really cloudy days and at dusk
Bronze for driving + when the water I am fishing is really green...

Maui Jim's sport line is quite affordable at $150ish...

Check this webpage from Smith Optics on lens colors.

    Edit:
Forgot to add that getting amber lenses would be a good choice.

Ditto MP's comment about amber Smith's. Love 'em! From Bahamas to New Brunswick.

Are the Maui Jim's lenses interchangeable?

I have a pair of Ray Bans that I really like. They are a tad too dark for low light.

I've just this week decided to get contacts after discovering how inexpensive they are at Cosco. Then I'm going to buy Smiths if Cosco has them or Maui Jim's with amber lenses. I personally prefer amber regardless the conditions on the water and dark grey when driving on the road.

This is more of an FYI post because I'm not sure of the best. My Optomotrist, a fly fisher, thinks amber or brown based on what he's read. Here's the FYI part. Based on MP's link I called Smith Optics. They have a prescription department. They can put a prescription in their lens with their tint and polarization.

MJ's for me now. The newer HT's really work in low light. I believe they gave me an additional 20 to 30 minutes of fish time in the morning and evening.

My MJ's are scripts so I don't know if they are interchangable. Sunglass Hut's carry them at the mall's
