Thread: LMF heads up

  1. Default LMF heads up

I went fishing today after work on the LMF and talked to James Vincent and Paul Baukenbush. They along with some students from SOSU in Durant relocated one rearing pen of trout to zone 2. So this means some easy fishing for awhile in the big water of zone 2. Just giving ya'll a heads up.

With any luck I should be somewhere on the river by 3:30 this afternoon. Hope to see you there.
    Thanks,

Had a great day on Saturday fly fishing zone two on the Lower Mountain Fork River. I caught about 14 browns & rainbows and long distance released at least that many. I got into a great hole. They were giving my Echo 3wt a workout. I was using a March Brown dry fly with a 18 inch 6X dropper of a Micro Mayfly beadhead. They were hitting the Micro Mayfly. I'm now a firm believer of the dropper fly.

    It was a fun day.

I know they say they don't spawn there but they sure were acting like it. One big old rainbow was oozing sperm when I picked him up. I had one that was at least 18 inches long fatty. They were all around me I could touch some of them with my rod tip. Everyone I saw seemed to be catching something. A lot of people were having luck with dry flies but I may of had about two takes on the ones I was using.

I was looking for you Mike B but I'm not to sure what you look like. I would have been easy to spot. I was the one always untangling my line. The wind was brutal. I stopped by Sids as he was closing and he mention you were looking for me. Unfortunately, I had something at church to do so I went back home Saturday night. Next time maybe we can hook up.

    Later,
    Terry

Great report! That micro mayfly is a great one. What size were you using?

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.

I knew I forgot to say something about the flies. The Micro Mayfly was a size 18 and the March Brown was a 16.

Hey Terry my day Saturday as through by about 9 am. I bet I caught 2 dozen fish from sunrise til nine. Man they would hit anything! I had my best luck on a dropper as well. I used a goddard caddis (aka food pellet) and a size 18 Too Simple Nymph and had most of my hits on the nymph. I fished my 6'4" 6wt PMQ I made this past January. I gave that little rod a work out. I drive a red ford f-150 with a rainbow trout on the front plate.

Maybe next time we'll fish together!

    Mike,
I appreciate the link. Like the name suggest it looks pretty simple. I just want to compliment you on your Fly of the Month forum on Sid's web site. I see several flies that I would like to try on the LMF now. I appreciate the help.
    Thanks,
    Terry
