  1. Default Line for grandkids?

I picked up 4 flyfishing rods/reels at garage sales...cheap and am going to set them up for my grandkids. Michigan streams/rivers; some panfish. Is there a generic inexpensive line you'd recommend?

This place has factory second lines from Northern Sport (AquaNova)
    DISCOUNT FISHING TACKLE
$9.50 each..... 3 for $22.50 when they're on sale. And it was free shipping for the lines last I knew
I have 7 or 8 of these myself.... no problems

what is cheap in your mind. in my mind forty bucks is cheap. if you want a line that will last but is still good i would go with the scientific anglers lefty kreh line. Its about 35 dollars and is as good as you can get for a cheap line.

    soph,

I can hear where you're coming from. I never get my kids (or future grandkids) anything that I wouldn't have heartache over if it were lost/destroyed/forgotten.

The seconds are a great idea. I want to get my 14 year old son into it. He loves to fish, and I'm trying to teach him what little I know.

Regardless of which line you settle on, consider making sure it's one of the bright colored lines. That will make it all the better for the kids (and you) to see.

Thanks for the tips! The discount stuff looks good checking out the boots too. Its a crapshoot re which of the grandkids will get "hooked" on fishing....I'll throw a hotfuge sundae, from the local farm dairy, into the mix! Can't hurt!

Sophie, start them out on a nice bluegill pond, they'll hook fish and before you know it they'll be hooked...
