Hi, My name is goldentrout. I'm a tackleholic!

This carries over into other things also. I follow the 7 step program and resist the urge to buy. And then without warning, in a weak moment, there it is! Something I just have to have. I can't control myself. My mind goes numb, I can't think straight. My only focus is on the item or items I feel I just have to own to make me happy and make my life complete. I don't even try to talk myself out it. Instead I come up with limitless justifications and reasons why. And then it happens!.....I fall off the wagon!

Then it comes. The credit card bill. Buyers remorse and guilt. The shame of it all. I failed again. So I go back to the disipline of self control and thinking in a more practical manner as I make payments on my credit card. It's a vicious cycle of victory and defeat.
But there is some consolation in knowing I have some really cool stuff though!
    Thanks for letting me share.....

Well goldentrout, I'm afraid the very words "there is some consolation in knowing I have some really cool stuff" is so true. I just looooove getting new tackle, I have so many flies and rods on reserve that if I attached them all together as wings I can easily jump off a cliff and fly away no questions asked. My philosophy: the best rod, reel, and fly combination for steelhead is still to be found!

I can tell right now, I have come to the wrong place to find support in fighting against my tackle addiction and out of control spending.

Never. Everything I have ever purchased has been absolutely necessary to myself and, I'm pretty sure, necessary for the survival of the human race.

Whether it's several copies of the same book(still not sure how that happened....) to a $10 Simms beer bottle opener (it's shaped like a trout!!!!) to the rifle scope that I was 75% sure would not fit my rifle(the 25% still sounded like a pretty good bet) every single purchase has been vital to the continence of life as we know it.

The only seven step program that works for a FF gearoholic, is to keep at least seven steps away from the front door (or back door) of any flyshop. Also, cut your credit card in seven pieces and take seven steps to the trash with them. Like wise, keep at least seven steps away from anyone who has a similar affliction, (consider a restraining order.). The above program only works if you can refrain from dreaming of fish, and are more than seven steps from a stream..
My personal program, is if it might improve my game, buy it.
I may have a friend to sell it to, if it doesn't work out..

Ultimately, it's not catching fish that satisfies, but knowing how.

Yeah..! I can't seem to get a handle on this at all. I get feeling very guilty when I look at all the "stuff" I have. Never going to get back what I spent on it. I'm Just an idiot that's what it comes down to. I'm always way ahead of myself. Thinking I'm going to need this and that down the line. This is simple my own sneaky way of manipulating myself in to buying "stuff" I don't need. Thank you for listening, my name is James and I to am a shopaholic.
