Look here .... http://www.theflyfishingforum.com/forums/general-discussion/88984-what-your-favorite-magazine.html

All of the magazine suggestions you could possibly read in a lifetime.

I want to be the first to point out that many of the questions that you have can be easily satiated with the search function. If you look under your 'welcome' tab-- upper right side of screen, the search is the third option from the right. click it and put your terms in.

To put my .02 in, I like Grey's Sporting Journal (not FF specific, but good writing.)

Kory,

T has given a good pointer for finding things around here. Currently I do not take in any magazines but understand how as a beginner you are looking for info and inspiration. The thread T has you linked to is full of member preferences.

Hey T,

I used to take Grey's back in the 80's and still have them. They are like the National Geographic of sporting magazines huh? It just does not seem right to throw them to the trash.

I'm only a recent joinee myself, but am rather pleased with the four major english magazines-TF,TFF,T&S and FF&FT. I know Fly Fishing and Fly Tying and Tout and Salmon are distributed in the states, but not so sure about Total Fly Fisher or Trout Fisherman, they have good articles and lots of fly recipes in them, if that's any help:shocking:

I like the "Drake" because of the stated cover price: 5 bucks, 10 bucks for bait-fisherman.

I don't have a favorite, I buy one in a different flavor every couple of months. The drake issue that has the photo contest is pretty nice to look through.

Second on the Drake. Don't subscribe, but I get it when it comes out.

It depends on what you want out of a magazine:

Do you want to learn something? Fly Rod and Reel is good for this, perhaps Fly Fisherman, too.

Do you want to find out about places to go locally, regionally or internationally? Eastern/Western Fly Fishing is a good one. High quality.

The Drake is an excellent choice for off-beat prose on the fly fishing. People doing stuff that most of us wish we could do, at least I do.

There's no shortage...

The Drake is my fav. While many are discussing gear or where to go, or fly to throw.
This mag has quality prose from guys with serious fish sickness.
I'll go with NWfly fishing too.

I'm the same as a lot of folks on here, I usually pick up one at the store every time I want it. I have found that I like Fly Fisherman and American Angler a lot. thisisfly.com is a cool online magazine, has a wide variety of fishing as well. Kinda has that hipster, snowboarder feel to it, but still pretty cool.

Fly Fusion and The Drake. That said, i usually pick up most of them. Those two are the best however, imo.

Same as most, I'll fill an urge once in a long winter and grab one off the news stand. I like Drake for the same reasons stated by others. The rest of the glossies. i.e Fly Fisherman, American Angler, etc. generally cycle through the same material. Fly Tyer doesn't offer anything that cannot be found on the web. Gear reviews are generally postive for the stuff that you also see the most ads for in the same issue.

Hi Kory,

You may want to consider getting a magazine that focuses on the area that you live. For instance I like Eastern Fly Fishing because it covers a lot of places I might want to fish. Then there are Saltwater Fly Fishing magazines that are great if you fish saltwater. If you tie flies then think about a magazine that covers fly tying.

Blah, blah, blah. The print mags are great when you are sitting in the bathroom. It is 2011, simply click on Fly fishing magazine - Blood Knot Magazine to get gear reviews, industry news, articles from all over the world, and some other funny stuff. Just like the others, you can subscribe or just check it out when the new issues come out. Oh yeah, and Catch is good too!

While i do read your site, it is kinda hard to read online magazines where there is no wifi signal....

+1 for eff,
i have a subscription to eastern fly fishing and love it:). it covers allot of my interests and has some great articles pertaining to regional information that may not be found in more main stream publications.
