ugh im having trouble getting a vise
ok so i was going to get a griffin blackfoot mongoose vise for 80 bucks but then it was all sold out so now that idea is down the drain...but anyways is the blackfoot worth the 145 dollars or should i save my money and by something like a danvise? the reason i want a griffin vise so bad is becase of 2 reasons one is made in us of a and 2 is it has lifetime gurantee

i dont really want to spend that much just because im low on pretty much all of my tying materials and the cheaper the vise the more i can restock

so is the griffin worth it..will the danvise give me at least 5 years of happy tying? or should i just stick with me 30 dollar cabelas special vise that doesnt always hold hooks the tightest?

thanks again

Re: ugh im having trouble getting a vise
I can't speak to Griffin's vises. I've gotten over 8 years out of a Dan-vise and it barely shows any signs of wear at all. My best estimate is about 2000 flies during that time, ranging from size 22 midges to size 2/0 bass/saltwater flies.

If I bought a new one, it would be a Renzetti Cam Traveler with a pedestal, but I'm in no hurry.

Just looked up the Blackfoot Mongoose and it looks fine except for not having cam actuated jaws. The cam is an awfully handy feature.

Re: ugh im having trouble getting a vise
You could get a made in USA Peak vise for $145. That's bullet-proof! It's
pedestal base weigs 5lbs, and mine doesn't move at all while tying.

I can see buying more materials, however. What are you currently tying on?
My Griffin 2A was a fine vise, and held hooks better than anything I've
tried since. The knobs work very well, and only take 30 minutes to become
expert at tuning them. I can see a scenario in which you're sitting at the
tying table, and wondering "What if I had a Mongoose?" ;) . Get what makes
you happy.

Personally I use a Peak Rotary vise, but I noticed that Orvis has a sale on the Renzetti Traveler (which is also a very nice vise) for $119.
