Default CDC Upside-down caddis

Does anyone have any tips on using a CDC feather (not puff) in place of deer/elk hair for the wing of an upside-down caddis? It's possible that the CDC may help with floating as well as allow better hook setting, but tying the CDC onto the hook is a problem I haven't figured out right. Thanks for any help!
