    Default Black Max

    from "Tying Classic Freshwater Streamers"

Slight variant - i used a nice Tangerine flavor AMGOLD crest for the tail to complement the hackle rather than golden crest.

the whole fly ended up like a dart...the black hackles were long and narrow, though i don't think it harms the simple composition of the fly!
Looks like a a bit of white showing though the head, but its reflection of the stem of the JC. I got a new shiny thing going one the heads of my flies as a final coat over the sally hansens coats.

    hook is a martinek CS #2 8xl

Nice, Eunan! And no matter how "wide" the wing is in the vise, it will look at least that narrow in the water. To wit:

Beautiful job on the body and wrap, too!

If you happen to be at the Marlborough show next weekend, try to catch Bob Popovic's program on streamer profiles. He has a different opinion

Ya, I've seen his streamers. Very nice, and the material he uses does give a "wider" fly. Just not my cup of tea.

Of course stiffer/softer material will behave differently with the water velocity but he contends that what you see in the vise is basically what the fish will see in the water. That a fly does not collapse like the one in your picture until you remove it from the water.
It's a very interesting program on fly design. And not just his streamers
I saw it a couple of years ago and I noticed that he's presenting it again this weekend.
