First fly in 6-7 years - '6-Starlings'

Just tied my first fly in 6 or 7 years. A SIZE 12 SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN THAT HARD!

All things considered, I'm fairly happy with it.

6 Starlings (for lack of a better name)

Hook: Mustand 9671 #12
Thread: Black
Tail: Matched pair of starling pointers, collard by a third
Rib: Pair of starling body feathers, palmered over the body, counter wrapped
Body: Peacock herl and thread brush
Collar: Starling body feather
Head: Thread, whipped and cemented

Not a bad re-entry random, heck I'll be rusty when I start tying again and it's only been since December since I did it.

Thanks, but it shouldn't have taken nearly 45 minutes.

It's one of my favorite flies, weighted, in small streams.

i haven't tied since my daughter was a baby, going on 5 years now.
i keep looking at the giant mess off tying gear stuffed in my closet with
all intentions of tying in the near future.
i think looking at your new found love of tying, nice fly btw, has
rekindled mine.
i think soon i'll break out the old, dusty tying gear and give it another try

I used to tie a whole series of these things, everything from a WC Stewart 'spider' to a micro bugger to a tiny version of a Nine-Three. If you look carefully, you should be able to find a few feather just under the throat or off the shoulder you can actually tie a short-hackled dry with. It's sort of like a black gnat. IF you are going to try and add a wing, go with a sparse dark grey dun cdc tuft.

Casey, at the end of when I could tie before, I had everything in one of those wooden boxes for 2 bottles of wine with just enough materials to tie one or two patterns and a couple of paper boxes of stock in a closet. Start tying... it's gratifying.
